Today marks an important milestone for the world’s oceans, as the long-awaited High Seas Treaty officially comes into force.

For the first time, the Treaty establishes a legal framework to protect vast areas of ocean that lie beyond national borders — regions that play a critical role in sustaining marine biodiversity, supporting migratory species, and regulating the planet’s climate.

Historic High Seas Treaty enters into force, launching a new era of global ocean governance

Often out of sight and out of reach, the high seas have remained among the least protected ecosystems on Earth. The implementation of this Treaty represents a meaningful step towards greater international cooperation and long-term ocean stewardship.

At Dive Butler International, we believe that meaningful ocean experiences go hand in hand with responsibility and care. Progress like this reinforces why protecting the ocean — both locally and globally — matters now more than ever.
